May 14, 2012) – Most people don’t give a second thought to clean fresh water coming out of the faucet and used water disappearing down the drain or with a flush. It’s part of what makes life safe, convenient and comfortable. In Nampa, it’s the employees of the Public Works Department that make it happen.
May 20-26 is National Public Works Week, a great opportunity to note what the City of Nampa Public Works accomplishes. You may not know that Nampa Public Works has staff working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. They maintain 369 miles of roadways and 1154 miles of water and sewer pipes; treat 10 million gallons of sewage each day; provide over six million gallons of safe, clean drinking water each day; and pump over a million gallons of contaminated water and debris from stormwater drains a year.
To celebrate and to share more about what is being accomplished, the City of Nampa Public Works Department is offering two informative tours:
Street Division Driving and Equipment Tour – Wednesday, May 23, 9:30-11am Participate in a short driving tour with Street Division Staff explaining how streets are maintained. Equipment used in street maintenance will be on display at the Street Shop with experts there to explain the use.
Wastewater Treatment Plant Tour- Wednesday, May 23, 1-2pm
